About This Work
Land holds on to everything that happens to it: growth and decay, fire and rain, the weight of what has passed over it. In this painting, the ground is not a surface to look across but a place where memory sits in layers. I am less interested in depicting a specific place than in the feeling of standing in one and sensing that it has a history older than you. The ground remembers where we have come from, the homes we have loved, the people who have shaped us, and the parts of ourselves we leave behind. Even as life changes and our idea of home shifts, something remains: a trace, a feeling, a quiet knowing of where we belong.
About the Artist

Eva Frengstad
evafrengI am a Norwegian-born, Avalon-based artist working intuitively with colour, texture and mark-making. My practice is inspired by the ocean, nature, music, meditation and mindfulness, as well as words, lyrics, poetry and quotes that evoke something within me. I paint from feeling rather than a fixed idea, allowing each work to unfold through layers, movement and instinct. I am drawn to the space between chaos and calm, control and surrender, and to translating emotions that are sometimes beyond words into something visual. My work is ultimately about connection: to ourselves, to nature, to one another and to the present moment. I paint what I feel, what moves me, and what I cannot always put into words.
